Cubs Tuesday Prospect Spotlight- Jen-Ho Tseng.

In an international free agent class where the Cubs signed Eloy Jimenez and Gleyber Torres, Jen-Ho Tseng signed with the Cubs for $1,625,000. Jen-Ho is the only one of those three still in the Cubs organization, and currently ranks 13th on MLB’s top 30 Cubs prospect.
Tseng is a right-handed pitcher out of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan who currently is on the Cubs active roster. He spent 2017 with the AA Tennessee Smokies and AAA Iowa Cubs finishing with a total record of 13-4 (7-3 AA, 6-1 AAA). For the Iowa Cubs, Tseng went 6-1, with a 1..80 ERA striking out 39 in his 55 innings pitched.
Tseng’s fastball doesn’t have any real “kick”, and sits around 90-93, but with great control. He also has a good curveball, which he consistently keeps down in the zone, and his best pitch is his changeup which he keeps very consistent and can throw it for strikes.
He could play in the Majors very soon and add on to either our struggling bullpen, which by the way is being improved after the Cubs signed Tyler Chatwood and Brandon Morrow, or he could come on as the fifth starter. Last season he pitched twice with one start when he was called up as a September call-up. With six innings pitched he gave up two home runs, walked two, struck out eight and surrendered five earned runs.

I know I’m not the only one looking forward to his future as a Cub, and hopefully, we get to see him in a Cubs uniform this year helping the Cubs get to the World Series for the second time in three years.
