9/24 Preview: Soler Back

After the Cubs shut out the Cardinals 5-0 behind a fantastic performance by Jake Arrieta on the mound, the Cubs are back in action for game 2 of the 3 game series at 12:05 today on Fox. The Cubs did have reason to celebrate last night, as the Nationals lost 6-5 to the Pirates which officially clinched the best record in the NL for the Cubs. This means the Cubs will have home field advantage in the playoffs up until the World Series which the AL team will host due to the bullshit rule that has the All Star Game decide home field for the World Series.

Starting Lineup:

Dexter Fowler CF
Kris Bryant 3B
Anthony Rizzo 1B
Ben Zobrist 2B
Addison Russell SS
Jason Heyward RF
Jorge Soler LF
Willson Contreras C
Jason Hammel P

The Cubs are certainly not letting up, as they are playing all of their regulars here against the Cardinals, likely trying to keep them from getting into the wild card game.

In other news, Jorge Soler is back in the starting lineup for the first time since exiting Sunday’s game with a side injury. He did pinch hit in yesterday’s win.

Cardinals Starting Lineup:

Matt Carpenter 2B
Stephen Piscotty RF
Brandon Moss LF
Jhonny Peralta 3B
Matt Adams 1B
Yadier Molina C
Randal Grichuk CF
Aledmys Diaz SS
Alex Reyes P

Can’t help but notice Wong isn’t in the lineup. Must have bit off more than he could chew yesterday (pun intended).

The pitching match up should be interesting as you have Jason Hammel who is 15-9 with a 3.56 ERA who has had a very up and down season facing off against the rookie Alex Reyes who is 3-1 with a 1.03 ERA in his 35 career MLB innings, all of which have come this season.

Again, the game is at 12:05 on Fox, so be sure to watch!
