You see that gorgeous smile pictured above? Well, we all could very well have a look like that on our faces tonight, as the Cubs have an opportunity to clinch the NL Central tonight against the Brewers (65-81). With the magic number now down to 1 after taking 2 of 3 in St. Louis, all it takes is 1 win or 1 Cards loss, and the Cubs will have the first crack at it tonight with a 7:05 start time at Wrigley Field. The Cardinals kick off a very important 4 game series with the Giants in San Francisco at 9:15 with major wildcard implications.
Now, I’m trying not to get a head of myself, but I can’t help but hope for the best and think the Cubs will win and close it out tonight. If it doesn’t happen tonight and the Cardinals win, the Cubs will have 3 more chances to take care of it against the Brewers. Tonight, the Cubs will send Mike Montgomery (4-5, 2.74 ERA) to the mound to face off against Jimmy Nelson (7-14, 4.42 ERA) who has been struggling all season. Let’s hope with a chance to clinch tonight with a win that our guys will come out and knock Nelson around a little bit.
The lineup for tonight’s game is:
- Dexter Fowler CF
- Kris Bryant 3b
- Anthony Rizzo 1b
- Ben Zobrist 2b
- Addison Russell SS
- Jorge Soler LF
- Jason Heyward RF
- Miguel Montero C
- Mike Montgomery P
Tonight’s game can be found at 7:05 on CSN-Chicago.
Friday 1:20- CSN & MLB Network: John Lackey (9-8, 3.35 ERA) vs. Chase Anderson (8-11, 4.53 ERA)
Saturday 3:05- WGN: Jake Arrieta (17-6, 2.91 ERA) vs. Zach Davies (10-7, 3.87 ERA)
Sunday 1:20- ABC-7: Kyle Hendricks (15-7, 2.03 ERA) vs. Wily Peralta (6-10, 5.42 ERA)
It is hard to imagine a scenario where the Cubs can’t win 1 of these games at home against the bottom-feeding Brewers. Let’s hope it happens tonight! Go Cubs!
